What a roll costs

Every price below includes the film, the developing, a printed contact sheet posted to your address, and the scanning. There is no hourly extra and no album upsell. If a sitting runs long because the light was worth waiting for, that is my problem, not your invoice.

What you get

  • A printed contact sheet of every frame, posted in a stiff envelope.
  • Scans at 80 megapixels of anything you ring, cleaned of dust only.
  • Fibre prints, selenium toned, dry-mounted if you want them that way.
  • Your negatives filed here for seven years and reprintable at any time.

What I will not do

  • Shoot from inside the aisle. I stand at the back and use a longer lens.
  • Fly a drone, light a sparkler tunnel, or stage a confetti run twice.
  • Reshape a face. Spots and stray hairs go; the face that arrived stays.
  • Hand over every frame. Thirty-six exist so that one or two can be good.

Frame 17 — the only staged thing all day, and it lasted four seconds.

If the answer you need is not here, write and I will answer it properly rather than by template.

Do you shoot digital at all?

On a wedding, yes — a digital body runs alongside for the speeches and anything after dark. The sheet you receive is still film. For studio sittings it is film only, which is why there are thirty-six frames and not four hundred.

How long until we see something?

Contact sheets are in the post ten days after the sitting. Finished scans follow at five weeks, prints at eight. In July and August add a fortnight to all three — the darkroom is too warm to work in before nine at night.

We are not photogenic.

Nobody is, for the first twenty minutes. That is exactly why the slot is 45 and the first roll is usually a write-off. The frames people keep are almost always shot after frame 20.

Can we have the unringed frames?

You already have them — the sheet is every frame on the roll, blinks included. What you do not get is 504 finished scans, because thirty of those are worth finishing and the rest would only dilute them.

Do you travel outside Moravia?

Anywhere reachable by train before 9 a.m. on the day. Beyond 60 km from the studio there is a travel charge of 14 Kč per kilometre, and past 300 km a night's room, because driving home at 2 a.m. with fourteen exposed rolls is how rolls get lost.

What if it rains all day?

Then we shoot the rain. Flat cloud is the best light there is for faces, and the two wettest weddings I have photographed produced the two sheets I would show first.
